set up xpra on a 2 vCPU ampere altra 8GB box as a poor man's whist or mightyapp and it's bitchin' fast provided you use the tcp mode instead of going through SSH to avoid all the nastiness of two layers of congestion control

Xpra – tmux/screen for X11

with native M1 support it should be even more of a treat; i use nomachine 8 on an M1 to wagie remotely and battery life is legendary since video decode is done in hw too

XPRA_PASSWORD=foobar xpra start :100 --bind-tcp=0.0.0.0:12345 --html=on --start=xterm --daemon=no --tcp-encryption=AES --tcp-encryption-keyfile=./aes.txt

i've whittled away about 40-50% of my SSD's lifespan in the span of 3 years or so on incredibly swap heavy websites (yes, that's a thing...) like gitbook, so hopefully i'll leave my 200-tab sessions to fester in the cloud from now on, obviously i'll still have to watch videos locally

jetbrains recommends xpra too

unagi for sale on a kenyan retail ecommerce site unagi for sale on a ukrainian retail ecommerce site

I came across this unagi with very shady packaging in an IRL supermarket a couple days ago; nowhere was the country of origin stated.

the .ua site says it's from china, which is most likely, and curiously, the reverse side has the list of ingredients and description in en, jp, and russian, which sort of begs the question, what exactly do the suppliers/OEM have to gain from not stating that it's from china

The analysis demonstrates that HLI represents an effective means of measuring development at the sub-national level. Compared to HDI, HLIs are characterized by simpler calculation and interpretation; fewer data requirements; less measurement error; more consistency over time; and no trade-offs between components.

the HLI is a alternative benchmark that doesn't have petrostates or other one-trick pony places suffering from the resource curse being considered as "highly developed," although i do have an issue with the semantics of the term "development," but that is a rant that is irrelevant to the gist being conveyed here

The time a batch script takes to execute is at least O(n*(n-1)/2) (aka O(n^2)) in the LENGTH OF THE FILE, INCLUDING COMMENTS. The reason is that the batch engine reads the entire file, then executes a line, then reads the file again, then executes another line, and so on. It is therefore customary to use a GOTO to skip over sizable comment blocks, so that you don’t have to “execute” them.
